A “hebao” (Chinese: 荷包) is a purse-like traditional Chinese accessory, used for carrying money, personal seals, and other odds and ends because there were no pockets on ancient clothing. It was usually fastened to the belt/sash. One common type of hebao was the perfume hebao, which was filled with fragant herbs, meant to ward off evil spirits and bring their carriers wealth and luck.
